Former India captain, head coach, and current Rajasthan Royals mentor Rahul Dravid had a humorous response when asked who wouldn’t have won the fielding medal during his playing days.
Team India introduced the fielding medal during the 2023 ODI World Cup to recognize the player with the best on-field effort, a tradition that continued in the 2024 T20 World Cup and the ongoing Champions Trophy.
Rajasthan Royals shared a video on X, where Dravid was asked which player from his era would have won the medal most. When told he couldn’t name himself, he playfully reminded everyone of his 200+ Test catches before naming two players he believed would have earned the honor.
“I have taken 200 catches in Test cricket. I think in my era it probably would have been Kaif and Yuvraj who would have won a lot of those titles,” he said.
However, Dravid chose not to reveal who wouldn’t have won the medal. Meanwhile, former Sri Lanka captain and Rajasthan Royals’ Director of Cricket, Kumar Sangakkara, who was also present, humorously suggested that Sourav Ganguly would have been a strong contender, referring to him as ‘Dada’.
“I think Dada comes close,” he answered as the room burst into laughter.
Dravid then gave a hilarious response, stating:
“I didn’t want to say it.”

Rahul Dravid ranks second for most catches by an Indian in international cricket
Rahul Dravid, widely regarded as one of cricket’s greatest batters, also made a name for himself as a remarkable fielder during his playing career. For years, he held the record for the most catches by an Indian in international cricket across all formats (334).
However, Virat Kohli recently surpassed this milestone during the ongoing Champions Trophy. The 52-year-old concluded his tenure as India’s head coach after leading the team to victory in the 2024 T20 World Cup. He will now take on a new role as Rajasthan Royals’ head coach in the Indian Premier League (IPL).
