Exclusive Interview: Rohit Sharma Reveals Secrets Behind India’s Consecutive ICC Title Wins

The BCCI’s social media team appeared to have some fun on Tuesday evening as they shared a video of Rohit Sharma bowling in the nets at Lucknow’s Ekana Stadium ahead of the second ODI against Afghanistan. Accompanying the clip, the BCCI captioned the post: “A new spin duo in town.”

The video featured Rohit Sharma, widely regarded as one of India’s finest batters, trying his hand at bowling in the nets alongside Yashasvi Jaiswal. The duo appeared to be sharing bowling duties during a light-hearted practice session, a moment the BCCI deemed entertaining enough to share with fans on social media.

How Has Rohit Sharma Performed With the Ball?

Whether Rohit Sharma’s bowling stint in the nets was part of a serious tactical plan or simply a relaxed practice session remains known only to the team management. For those unaware, Rohit Sharma is an off-spinner by trade and has picked up eight wickets in ODI cricket.

Over the years, his bowling appearances in international matches have become infrequent, usually limited to low-pressure situations or occasions when the team needs a change of pace. As a result, his contributions with the ball are now remembered more as an interesting fact than a regular option.

However, younger fans may not know that Rohit regularly bowled off-spin during the early stages of his career and was often used as a bowling option while representing the Deccan Chargers in the IPL.

India Look to Clinch ODI Series Against Afghanistan

While the net session provided some light-hearted moments, India have important business to take care of on the field. After being run out for a modest score in the first ODI at Dharamsala, Rohit Sharma will be keen to make a bigger impact with the bat as India aim to wrap up the series in Lucknow.

The hosts currently hold a 1-0 lead following a seven-wicket victory in the rain-affected opening match. Debutants Gurnoor Brar and Harsh Dubey impressed in their first international outing, while Kuldeep Yadav could be drafted into the playing XI if India decide to strengthen their spin attack on the Lucknow pitch.

Afghanistan face an uphill challenge, having never defeated India in an ODI. However, their bowling unit, led by Fazalhaq Farooqi and Noor Ahmad, has the potential to trouble the Indian batting lineup. As for Rohit’s bowling, whether fans get to see it in the match remains an intriguing question.
