[WATCH]- Rohit Sharma’s Brilliant Catch Ends Steve Smith’s Masterclass In BGT 2024-25 3rd Test

Indian captain Rohit Sharma took a diving catch to dismiss Steve Smith on Day 2 (Sunday, December 15) of the third Test against Australia at the Gabba, Brisbane. Smith edged a delivery to the slip cordon, where Rohit dived and completed the catch.

The dismissal occurred in the 83rd over as Jasprit Bumrah bowled with the second new ball. Attempting a drive, Smith edged it to Rohit, who caught it with ease. This wicket ended the 241-run stand between Smith and Travis Head, with Smith receiving a standing ovation as he walked off.

Former Australian captain Steve Smith ended a 26-innings drought with his first century since the Lord’s Test in last year’s Ashes. The New South Welshman also recorded his 10th Test hundred against India, matching Joe Root’s tally.

Steve Smith scored his 42nd Test fifty off 128 balls, building a significant fourth-wicket partnership with Travis Head. Following his half-century, Smith switched gears, finding boundaries with ease. He went into the tea break on 65 and returned with a more aggressive intent.

Rohit Sharma’s decision to bowl first on Day 2 in Brisbane has sparked mixed reactions

Rohit Sharma won the toss on Day 1 and opted to bowl first, considering the overcast conditions and a green pitch. However, with no wickets falling in the 13.2 overs bowled on Day 1, experts were divided over the decision, with opinions split on whether fielding first was the right call.

India made two changes for the Brisbane Test, bringing in Akash Deep and Ravindra Jadeja for Harshit Rana and Ravichandran Ashwin. Australia replaced Scott Boland with a fit-again Josh Hazlewood, despite Boland’s key role in their Adelaide win. The five-Test series remains tied at 1-1.
