Jasprit Bumrah has been leading from the front as the 28-year-old was handed a new role in the ongoing Test against England, at Edgbaston. Bumrah, being the skipper for the very first time, played a crucial knock of 31* runs in merely 16 deliveries, with 4 boundaries and a couple of sixes. The right-arm pacer historically led the Indian team to a score of 416 by smashing 35 runs off Stuart Broad‘s over, in the first innings. Bumrah now has scored 118 runs in 8 innings, in the Test series underway.
After his blockbuster batting show in Birmingham, Bumrah’s wife and the television presenter Sanjana Ganesan has hilariously taken the credit for his batting performance. Bumrah, certainly renowned for his deadly bowling spells, has brought a batting revolution in his gameplay. He was also involved in a vital partnership of 89* runs, with Mohammed Shami, in India’s Lord’s heroics, during the last year’s outing of the side on English soil.
On being asked about her contribution to Bumrah’s bowling abilities, Ganesan answered ‘no’ but admitted that she has been focusing on his batting techniques.
ICC has posted the video of Ganesan while answering the question asked by Sri Lanka veteran Mahela Jayawardene.
She had tons of tips and tricks – Sanjana Ganesan on Bumrah’s mother
Ganesan was furthermore asked about the reaction of Bumrah’s mother on him being the skipper. Ganesan said:
“She’s very excited. She’s always liked to see him do well because he loves the sport and she’s literally seen the entire journey he’s gone through to get to where he is. She was ecstatic when she found out.
“She had tons of tips and tricks, even though she’s never played cricket herself! Like a mother does, she told him, ‘This should be how you think, and this should be what you do. It was very nice to see, and she was very happy and proud of him.”

Besides, there were a lot of concerns raised over Bumrah’s captaincy capabilities as he had never led a side at any level. But Jasprit Bumrah struck the English side by the performance itself. After his significant batting cameo, Bumrah didn’t botch to perform with the ball, as the unorthodox pacer captured three wickets on Day 2.
India now is batting in their second innings and will be looking to set a huge target for the Ben Stokes-led English men.
