West Indies and India are facing each other in Trinidad for the 1st ODI of 3-match series. West Indies’ skipper Nicholas Pooran won the toss and elected to field first.

Skipper Shikhar Dhawan and Shubman Gill gave a great start to the Indian team. The pair added 119 runs before Gill ran himself out. The flamboyant batter scored 64 runs off 53 balls. His knock consisted of 6 fours and 2 maximums.

Shreyas Iyer came in to bat at no.3. He, along with Dhawan, stitched a 94-run partnership for the 2nd wicket. Dhawan was just 3 runs away from his century when he lost his wicket.

In the 34th over of Indian innings, Left-arm spinner Gudakesh Motie bowled a widish delivery to Dhawan. The southpaw tried to slice it towards the Point region. However, Shamarh Brooks flew to his right and plucked a brilliant catch.

Have been hearing it for 10 years- Shikhar Dhawan on his criticism

Ahead of the 1st ODI, Shikhar Dhawan addressed the media. During the interaction, he was asked about the negative opinion which people have about his performances. Dhawan replied that now he has reached a stage where he’s unfazed with all the criticism. After a failure, self-assessment is the only tool which he relies on, to improve.

Dhawan stated: “I don’t feel strange. Have been hearing it for 10 years now. They keep saying, I keep playing. It doesn’t matter to me. If it did, I wouldn’t have been here today. Everyone has their own opinions, but I know my job and what I need to do. I have been doing this for so many years and I don’t take a lot of tension after a couple of failures. I self-analyze and look to improve. That’s what matters to me.”
