Indian opener Shubman Gill made a decent comeback to the Indian team for the first ODI against West Indies on Friday, at the Queens Park Oval in Trinidad. He looked in good touch batting with positive intent at the crease alongside skipper Shikhar Dhawan. However, Shubman Gill’s stay at the crease was cut short by a brilliant piece of fielding by West Indies skipper Nicholas Pooran.

Shubman Gill walked out to open the batting with Shikhar Dhawan after West Indies put the visitors in to bat first. The duo scored 73 runs in the powerplay for India. They put on 119 runs for the opening wicket before Gill got out. Shubman managed 64 runs off 53 deliveries. His knock included six boundaries and a couple of sixes.

In the eighteenth over, Alzarri Joseph bowled a length delivery to Shubman Gill, who tucked it to the right of mid-wicket. There was an easy single on offer, but his lazy piece of running and Nicholas Pooran’s brilliant effort ended Gill’s stay at the crease. Pooran picked up the ball, turned around, and threw it quickly to pull off a great run-out.
