Former Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) captain Virat Kohli has shared a message for the fans ahead of IPL 2022. While Kohli might not be the skipper anymore, he still remains the face of the franchise.

The franchise is leaving no stones unturned before unveiling their new jersey on 12 March at Church Street in Bengaluru. Kohli shared a few updates from the event, called ‘RCB Unbox’ for the fans.

Virat Kohli also expressed his excitement for the new season and the team’s renewed energy. Before he could get to the apparently “most important news”, the video was cut short.

“Hi guys, a few updates for you guys. As you know, we are going to start our season pretty soon. [It’s] something I am really excited for. As I said, renwed energy. Really looking forward to this season. First and foremost the most important news is that…”

However, Virat Kohli won’t be available for the event because he is currently part of India’s bio-bubble in Bangalore. Rohit Sharma & Co are slated to host Sri Lanka for a day-night Test, starting March 11.

India currently lead the series 1-0 and will look to inflict a whitewash to improve their position in the ICC World Test Championship table.

Meanwhile, it is expected that RCB might announce their new captain in the event. The position remains vacant after Virat Kohli relinquished leadership duties after IPL 2021 in the UAE.

RCB yet to accept Virat Kohli’s resignation – Reports

The franchise have reportedly not accepted Kohli’s resignation yet that was tendered last year. However, it is unlikely that he will be RCB’s captain again.

New recruits Faf du Plessis and veteran wicket-keeper batsman Dinesh Karthik are in the reckoning to lead the side in IPL 2022. Ace all-rounder Glenn Maxwell, who was retained ahead of the mega auction, is also in the race to fill in Kohli’s place.
