Indian batter Virat Kohli had a decent outing in the four-day warm-up match against Leicestershire on Friday at the Grace Road in Leicester. He managed to score thirty-three runs in the first innings of the match.

Virat Kohli walked out to bat at number four for India amid loud cheers from the crowd after the dismissal of skipper Rohit Sharma. He looked in great touch at the crease scoring runs at a good clip. Kohli slammed four boundaries and a six during his stay at the crease.

The veteran batter, during the course of his innings, tried to copy Joe Root’s ‘magic bat balance’. Virat Kohli attempted to balance his bat straight at the non-striker’s end. This incident caught the eye of the fans, and the video of it got viral on social media. Interesting, Joe Root did it a few days back during the test match against New Zealand.

The 34-year-old was dismissed in the forty-first over off Roman Walker’s bowling. He got bowled for 31 runs off 69 balls. However, the former India skipper was unhappy with the umpire’s decision. Meanwhile, the Indian team is 162/7 in 45 overs, with KS Bharat (21* off 66) and Umesh Yadav (8* off 11) at the crease.

Virat Kohli was the captain of the Indian team, the last time they toured England. India played four test matches and was leading 2-1 in the series. However, the fifth match got postponed due to a covid-19 outbreak in the Indian camp. In the four test matches, Virat Kohli had scored 218 runs at an average of 31.14 and a strike rate of 46.48.

Pains me to see such a big player go through such a long gap: Kapil Dev on Virat Kohli’s century drought

Former India cricketer Kapil Dev has expressed that Virat Kohli’s poor run has become a concern for the Indian team. He added that it pains to see that the veteran cricketer hasn’t scored a century in a long time. Virat Kohli’s last international century came against Bangladesh in 2019.

“It pains me to see such a big player go through such a long gap (with regards to a century). He is like a hero to us. We never thought we would witness a player whom we could compare to Rahul Dravid, Sachin Tendulkar, Sunil Gavaskar, or Virender Sehwag. But then they came and forced us to compare. Now since he hasn’t for the last two years, it is bothering me and all of us,” said Kapil Dev.

The Indian team will be fifth test match against England in Edgbaston, Birmingham starting on July 1. The visitors are leading the series 2-1.
