Indian captain Virat Kohli didn’t have a good comeback to international cricket during the 2nd Test against New Zealand after a short break. The talismanic run-scorer was given out to a challenging decision at the Wankhede Stadium.

Opting to bat first, Mayank Agarwal and Shubman Gill gave India a good start, adding 80 runs for the first wicket before Ajaz Patel scripted a mini-collapse. Gill survived a stumping chance but nicked off the very next ball. Pujara survived an lbw call but was stumped the very next ball before Virat Kohli walked out in the middle.

Pumped in confidence, Ajaz bowled some tight line and length that got Kohli thinking. It was a fullish ball and Kohli pressed forward to push. The Kiwis went all out with the appeal forcing Anil Chaudhary to rule it out. Virat Kohli was soon to review the decision which showed that the ball had hit the bat.

However, it was inconclusive according to third umpire Virender Sharma, who said:

“Ball and bat and pad appears to be together. I don’t have any conclusive evidence to overturn that.”

The third umpire also checked the ball tracking, which showed three reds as Virender Sharma asks umpire Anil Chaudhary to stick with the original call.

The decision naturally did not go well with the cricket onlookers and with the batter as well. He tried to have a word with the umpire and then left the field. His frustration over the decision was clearly seen as Kohli hit the boundary ropes on his way to the pavilion.

Meanwhile, Mayank Agarwal and Shreyas Iyer have put in a resounding effort to rebuild the innings in the last session of the first day of the 2nd Test match.
