England wicket-keeper batter Jonny Bairstow and Virat Kohli seem to have put behind their on-field spat that took place during the fifth Test match at the Edgbaston in Birmingham. The duo met each other before the start of the second ODI on Thursday at the Lord’s cricket ground in London.

Virat Kohli and Jonny Bairstow were involved in a heated argument on day three of the fifth Test match. Kohli tried to slegde Jonny Bairstow, who also gave it back to the former Indian skipper. The umpires Aleem Dar and Richard Kettleborough had to step in to calm things down between Virat Kohli and Jonny Bairstow.

However, the two cricketers seem to have not taken the argument off the field. They shook hands and shared a brief conversation before the second ODI when Kohli was entering the ground for his net session while Bairstow was getting back to the dressing room after his training. The video of the incident was posted by the Sony Sports Network on their social media handles.

Refused to invite him for dinner: Jonny Bairstow jokes about his on-field argument with Virat Kohli

The incident between Virat Kohli and Jonny Bairstow fired up the England cricketer, who took on the bowling attack. He slammed 93 runs off 79 deliveries after Virat Kohli’s sledging. He finished the innings with 106 runs off 140 deliveries at a strike rate of 75.51. His knock included fourteen boundaries and a couple of sixes.

Speaking about his on-field argument with Virat Kohli, Bairstow stressed that there was nothing between the two. He jokingly said,

“Refused to invite him for dinner.”

“As I mentioned earlier, there was literally nothing. We’ve been fortunate to play against each other for ten years. So, I’m pretty sure we’ll be able to have dinner. Don’t worry about it,” added Bairstow.

England went on to win the fifth Test match by seven wickets as they chased down 378 runs in the fourth innings. Jonny Bairstow earned the Player of the Match for his twin hundreds – 106 and 114* in the match. The five-match Test series ended in a draw at 2-2.
