IPL and poor umpiring has been a thing that goes hand in hand. Over the history of the IPL, we have seen many decisions by the umpires which have shocked the players, teams and fans. Players have shown their emotions towards the umpires also and have suffered penalties for it. The quality of umpiring has certainly gone down and it needs a revamp to get spot on decisions at this stage.

Today we’ll be talking about one of the most bizarre incidents that we saw in one of the most heated matches in the history of the IPL. In the 2019 final between Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings, Nitin Menon was the centre of attraction as in the final over, he didn’t call a wide for a ball that Pollard wouldn’t have been able to reach.

This increased the tensions between the players and the umpires since each and every run is pretty important in a final. Visibly frustrated with the call, Pollard decided to protest against the umpire’s call and took the guard between the wide line and the tramline and as Bravo started running in, he went further wide, only to be declared a dead ball. Pollard was later charged for breaching the code of conduct but it didn’t matter as Mumbai won the match against Chennai by a solitary run.

DC vs RR no-ball controversy

Nitin Menon was the on-field umpire yesterday for the controversial decision in the match between Delhi Capitals and Rajasthan Royals. He didn’t call for a waist high no-ball at a crucial stage of the match which raised tensions between players and the umpires again.

If he had called for the no-ball, it might have changed the course of the match since Rovman Powell was in great touch. Pravin Amre, the assistant coach came onto the field to show his dissatisfaction. The umpire’s call stood and the play had to continue. Delhi lost the match to Rajasthan Royals by just 15 runs. Later today, Rishabh Pant, Shardul Thakur and Pravin Amre were charged for breach of conduct.

Nitin Menon has been the scapegoat for a lot of poor umpiring decisions and a question mark still remains whether all decisions should go to the third umpire for checks?
