[WATCH]- Yuzvendra Chahal Claims Five Wickets For Northamptonshire Against Kent On Debut

In the One Day Cup held at Canterbury on Wednesday, August 14, Yuzvendra Chahal made an impactful debut for Northamptonshire against Kent. The leg spinner finished with stunning figures of 5/14 in his 10 overs, which consisted of five maidens.

Chahal created a complex web that trapped middle and lower-order batters as Kent were reduced to 82 runs all out in 35.1 overs. He got rid of Jaydn Denly, Ekansh Singh, Grant Stewart, and Nathan Gilchrist, causing a breakdown in their middle order. Kent lost their last six wickets for only 33 runs.

Chahal’s dream debut with the ball was shared by One Day Cup’s official handle on X. They captioned the social media post:

“Yuzvendra Chahal: 10-5-14-5. A magnificent Northamptonshire debut from the Indian leg-spinner. In his last eight overs his figures were 8-5-4-5! Watch every ball of his unplayable debut spell here.”

“Yuzvendra is another high-profile overseas player who brings with him a wealth of experience and some incredible skills. His record speaks for itself and his wicket-taking ability will add strength to our attack.”

Earlier in the day, Northamptonshire introduced Chahal by highlighting his impressive statistics from the Indian Premier League. They stated:

“The 34-year-old became the first player in IPL history to take over 200 wickets and he brings tons of experience to the County and is excited to get together with his new teammates at the back of the 2024 season.”

Yuzvendra Chahal was a member of the winning team in the 2024 T20 World Cup. However, at the age of 34, he was not selected for any T20I squads for India’s away series against Zimbabwe and Sri Lanka. With 96 dismissals, he holds the record for most wickets taken by an Indian bowler in T20Is. In total, there are 354 dismissals for him across 305 T20s.
