The leg-spinner for Team India, Yuzvendra Chahal is enjoying family time at home after returning from a recent West Indies tour. During the Caribbean tour, he played in ODI and T20I matches but was not included in the Ireland series. Despite playing all five T20Is and taking five wickets, he was not selected for the Asia Cup 2023.
Chahal shared a photo and video on his Instagram, showing him feeding his dogs, offering fans a glimpse into his personal life. His caption read, “With the most valuable family members by my side 🐶”
“I feel you won’t be able to create a place for Yuzi Chahal for the World Cup as well” – Aakash Chopra
He conveyed his thoughts in the video by saying: “You are going with just one wrist-spinner in this tournament. I feel you won’t be able to create a place for Yuzi Chahal for the World Cup as well because if it wasn’t created here, it won’t be created there as well unless there is an injury.”
He further continued: “I feel we have a slight obsession that we need a batter at No. 8. We have Jaddu (Ravindra Jadeja), Axar (Patel) and Shardul Thakur, who can both bat and bowl. So you want all-rounders at No. 7 and No. 8 and because of that, you are unable to create a place for Yuzi Chahal.”
Yuzvendra Chahal’s absence from the Asia Cup 2023 squad has sparked speculation and analysis from experts in the cricket fraternity. While his recent performance in the T20I series and previous tours might have raised questions about his exclusion, several factors could have contributed to this decision.
Potential reasons could include the team management’s preference for other spinners like Kuldeep Yadav, tactical considerations based on team dynamics, or even an opportunity to explore different talent pools. Ultimately, the decision highlights the fierce competition within the Indian cricket landscape and emphasizes the need for consistent and standout performances to secure a spot in prestigious tournaments like the Asia Cup.
