“We Still Have To Fill Some Spots Before 2022 T20 World Cup” – Rohit Sharma

After a brilliant performance in the ODI series, India is all set to take on West Indies in a five-match T20I series. Skipper Rohit Sharma, who was rested for the ODIs is back for the T20I matches. The series will be key for the Indian team, with the T20 World Cup 2022 around the corner. Rohit expressed that India will be looking to address all the issues before the mega-event in October this year.

On the eve of the first T20I, Rohit Sharma addressed the media in a press conference. The Indian team has given opportunities to youngsters on multiple occasions this year, to test the bench strength. In the absence of the senior players, the second-string side performed well against South Africa and on the tour of Ireland.

Their performances have raised the problem plenty before the Indian selectors and the management ahead of the World Cup. Skipper Rohit Sharma expressed that the Indian team needs to fill in some spots before October. He added that they will provide the players the freedom to play the way they want in the series. Rohit said,

“There are some spots that we need to fill, but we also know what we need to do to fill them. We will try to address all the issues in the coming matches. We want to give guys the freedom,” said Rohit Sharma as quoted by NDTV.

Indian skipper Rohit Sharma further expressed that the players should be pressure free during the matches. They should play as they do in the T20 leagues for their respective franchises or state teams. He added that the Indian management’s focus is to create an environment where the players can express themselves on the field.

“We can talk about preparation and technique, but the players should be left alone when the match comes, we just want them to play like they do when playing for franchises or state teams. Our job is to eliminate the pressure. We are just trying to create an environment where guys can play freely,” said Rohit Sharma.

The first T20I between India and the West Indies will take place on Friday, July 29. The Brian Lara Stadium in Tarouba, Trinidad will host the match. The two teams will play the next two matches in St Kitts, before ending the tour with the fourth and fifth T20Is in Florida.
