‘We’ll just assess tomorrow in the morning and play to the situation’ – Washington Sundar Ahead Of Crucial Day 5 In ENG vs IND 3rd Test

Team India all-rounder Washington Sundar expressed confidence that the visitors can pull off a win in the tightly-fought Lord’s Test against England on Day 5. Despite India’s late batting collapse on Day 4, Sundar maintained that the team is content with their current position in the match.

Day 4 at Lord’s saw bowlers dominate as England were bowled out for 192. Sundar took four wickets, while Bumrah and Siraj grabbed two each. India’s chase of 193 started poorly, ending the day at 58/4. Needing 135 more to win, Sundar stayed hopeful.

Speaking at the post-day press conference, he was asked about India’s mindset heading into the final day and shared that the team believes they can successfully chase down the target.

“In Test cricket, there’s nothing called the best approach because you’ve got to be slightly different when it’s required of you. We’ll just assess tomorrow in the morning and play to the situation and play to the merit. We know it’s all going to go really well for us,” the 25-year-old asserted.

After dismissing England for 192, Team India would have hoped to reach stumps on Day 4 at Lord’s with minimal damage. However, they suffered the loss of four wickets in the final session. Despite England’s strong resurgence, Washington Sundar insisted that India are satisfied with how things stand heading into the final day.

“We would take it any day. We [will] really come out positive tomorrow. We’ve got some solid batsmen in the dressing room and it’s exciting in every way. Winning a Test at Lord’s is going to be amazing. So, I think we’re sitting pretty,” he said.

“One Of My Best Days” – Sundar Reflects On 4-Wicket Haul In 3rd Test

Washington Sundar emerged as an unlikely hero with the ball for India on Day 4 of the Lord’s Test. Sundar was initially assigned a containing role, but he performed well beyond expectations. He claimed the key wickets of Joe Root (40), Jamie Smith (8), Ben Stokes (33), and Shoaib Bashir (2), helping India gain the upper hand in the match.

Looking back on his performance, Sundar acknowledged that it was one of his finest bowling displays in overseas conditions. He remarked:

“Definitely one of the best days with the ball for me, especially outside of India. I had some solid plans coming into this Test match and really wanted to execute them both in first and second innings.”
