India’s spin-bowling all-rounder Washington Sundar struck a key blow on Day 4 of the third Test at Lord’s by dismissing Joe Root for 40. The former England captain took a slightly unorthodox approach, attempting a sweep shot, but was undone by a well-pitched delivery from Sundar that crashed into the leg stump.

The wicket came in the 43rd over of England’s second innings, during Sundar’s third over of the spell. Root misjudged the line and missed the sweep entirely, only to turn around and see his leg stump uprooted. He lowered his head in disappointment as Sundar celebrated the vital breakthrough.

Washington Sundar Bowls Jamie Smith With A Stunning Delivery On Day 4 Of 3rd Test

India’s off-spinner Washington Sundar provided a vital breakthrough by dismissing England’s in-form wicketkeeper-batter Jamie Smith on Day 4 (Sunday, July 13) of the third Test at Lord’s in London. The dismissal came on the second ball of the 47th over in England’s second innings.

Sundar bowled a sharp, skidding delivery that went straight on with the angle instead of turning. Smith, attempting to play it off the back foot, was completely beaten as the ball sneaked past his edge and uprooted the off-stump. Sundar celebrated the wicket passionately, charging away in delight.

Washington Sundar Cleans Up Stokes For 33, Takes Third Wicket On Day 4

India all-rounder Washington Sundar claimed the crucial wicket of England skipper Ben Stokes on Day 4 of the third Test at Lord’s (Sunday, July 13). The off-spinner dismissed Stokes for 33 off 96 deliveries, removing England’s last established batter in their second innings.

The breakthrough came in the 55th over. Sundar delivered a length ball that stayed low after pitching around off-stump. Stokes attempted a slog sweep but failed to connect, and the ball snuck under his bat to rattle the middle stump. You can watch the video here:

This marked Washington Sundar’s third major wicket of the innings, having earlier removed Joe Root (40) and Jamie Smith (8). With the bat, he also contributed a useful 23 runs in India’s first innings, helping the team match England’s total before being bowled out for 387.
