West Indies Face Scheduling Conflict Ahead Of India Test series

Cricket West Indies

The West Indies Cricket Team is facing a huge scheduling conflict amid the ICC World Cup Qualifier 2023 and the upcoming all-format home series against India. They are currently playing in the ICC World Cup Qualifiers in Zimbabwe, aiming to book a place in the 2023 ICC ODI World Cup, which will take place later this year.

Just three days after ICC World Cup Qualifiers conclude, West Indies will take on India in the first of the two Test matches. They will be facing the logistical challenge of travelling from Harare to Roseau, the capital city of the Caribbean island. Normal international travel would apparently require close to two days. The likes of Jason Holder, Kyle Mayers, Roston Chase, and Alzarri Joseph play both formats, and they are currently playing the qualifiers.

The West Indies team will not get the ideal preparation time to switch from the white-ball formal to the Test format. Cricket West Indies (CWI) acknowledges the problem and is exploring options to avoid crises, reported Cricbuzz. “We have multiple options, but first we need to qualify for the CWC,” an official told Cricbuzz.

Cricket West Indies might release Test players for the India series

Cricket West Indies might release Jason Holder, Kyle Mayers, Roston Chase, and Alzarri Joseph before the final of the ICC World Cup Qualifiers 2023. The final won’t have a major relevance to the World Cup qualification as reaching the final is enough. The official stated that “The final of the CWCQ is meaningless, so our Test players won’t participate, but first, we need to make sure we reach the final.”

Team India is planning to land in the Caribbean well in advance of the first Test, which begins on July 23. They are likely to arrive by July 1, allowing them at least 10 days to prepare and overcome jet lag. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is likely to announce the squads by June 27.
