Right-handed batter Ruturaj Gaikwad was at his mighty best during the Vijay Hazare Trophy quarter-final against Uttar Pradesh on Monday, November 28 at the Narendra Modi Stadium Ground ‘B’ in Motera. He created a world record, slamming seven sixes in an over in the match. The Maharashtra skipper remained unbeaten to power his team to 330 runs in the first innings.

Ruturaj Gaikwad opened the innings along with Rahul Tripathi after Uttar Pradesh opted to field first. Maharashtra was dealt with early blows, as they lost two wickets for just 41 runs on the board. However, Ruturaj Gaikwad kept one end strong. He pilled on runs to dig Maharashtra out of trouble. The right-handed batter was going great guns, completing his century in the thirty-eight over.

Post the landmark, Gaikwad accelerated his innings, taking on the Uttar Pradesh bowlers. In the forty-ninth over, he slammed seven sixes against Shiva Singh to script a world record for most sixes in an over. During the mayhem, the swashbuckling batter also brought up his double century.

The Maharashtra skipper remained unbeaten on 220 runs off 159 deliveries at a strike rate of 138.36. His knock was filled with ten boundaries and sixteen sixes as Maharashtra put on 330 runs. Ruturaj Gaikwad’s world record of seven sixes left the fans astounded, who took to social media to hail this great achievement.

Ruturaj Gaikwad breaks several records with his terrific double-century

Maharashtra batter Ruturaj Gaikwad’s 220 runs knock against Uttar Pradesh marked his maiden List A double-hundred. His previous best was 187* against Sri Lanka in 2019. He also became the joint holder of the record for most runs off an over in List A cricket. Gaikwad slammed 42 runs in the over against Shiva Singh. The opener also became the eleventh Indian to hit a double century in List-A cricket.
