The inaugural season of the Women’s Indian Premier League is all set to take place next year. The Board of Control for Cricket in India has begun the preparations to conduct the tournament. The players and the fans are excited as this will be the first time that India will host a women’s franchise cricket tournament. Indian cricketer Smriti Mandhana spoke about the enthusiasm among the Indian fans about the tournament.

Smriti Mandhana is currently playing for the Southern Brave Women in the Hundred tournament. She slammed a fiery 25-ball 46 runs knock against the Oval Invincibles at the Kennington Oval. The Southern Brave Women won the match by 12 runs. Post-match, Smriti Mandhana was asked if there is the same enthusiasm in India about the Women’s Indian Premier League.

“With the Women’s IPL coming next year, can we expect the same kind of enthusiasm back at home as well?” the journalist asked.

Responding to the questions, Smriti Mandhana said, “I think whenever we play there is a lot of enthusiasm back home irrespective of the format. Indian fans love cricket and they turn up to support us regardless of whether it is a one-day or T20. So, the Women’s IPL will be great.”

BCCI Looking At March 2023 Window For Inaugural Women’s IPL – Reports

The Board of Control for Cricket in India has set aside a window in March 2023 for the inaugural season of the Women’s Indian Premier League, as reported by Espncricinfo. They have already altered the women’s domestic cricket schedule to fit the tournament. Usually, the domestic season lasts from November to April.

However, this year, the season will begin in October with the T20 Championship. It will conclude in February next year with the inter-zonal one-day competition. Espncricinfo reported, that BCCI President Sourav Ganguly has expressed that the process to begin the Women’s Indian Premier League is already underway.
