Dewald Brevis of South Africa is making news for all the right reasons. In the ongoing U-19 World Cup he turned himself into a run-machine. Brevis finished the league stage as the highest run-scorer with 362 runs in four games. He smashed one century and three half-centuries in the tournament
In addition to his batting, Brevis can also contribute with his leg breaks. The 18-year-old aspires to represent South Africa as an all-rounder in all three formats.
Baby AB
The batting style of Dewald Brevis is quite similar to that of South African legend AB de Villiers. Dewald has perfectly absorbed the relaxed nature of De Villiers’ strokeplay along with the firm foundation in the batting stance. For this reason, he is known as ‘Baby AB’ in South Africa. Dewald, though, is a little more bottom-handed than AB de Villiers.

IPL
Dewald wants to represent Royal Challengers Bangalore in the Indian Premier League (IPL). He has posted a couple of pictures wearing the RCB jersey, on his social media accounts as well, which shows his love for the Bangalore based franchise.
Mike Hesson, RCB’s director of cricket, has recently followed Dewald on Instagram, and reports suggest that Bangalore may bid for the talented youngster in the IPL mega auctions 2022.
Favourite Players
AB de Villiers and Virat Kohli are two of Dewald’s favourite players. Brevis played for the Afrikaanse Hoër Seunskool (Affies), which also happens to be the same school where AB de Villiers has studied. AB de Villiers also gave valuable batting tips to the youngster, regarding some minor technical adjustments, during the lockdown.
It’s worth mentioning that Brevis also dons the number 17 jersey just like ABD. When he first met ABD, he had taken his permission to wear the same number.

Unfortunately, Brevis will not be able to share the dressing room with AB de Villiers since the legendary batter announced his retirement from all forms of cricket last year. However, he can get a chance to play with Kohli if his incredible run continues with the bat.
