Vaibhav Suryavanshi (born 27 March 2011) is an Indian cricketer who represents Bihar in domestic competitions and Rajasthan Royals in the IPL. A left-handed batter, he made his first-class debut in January 2024. He holds the distinction of being the youngest Indian to debut in both List A cricket and the Indian Premier League.
Vaibhav Suryavanshi made headlines during the IPL 2025 auction held in November 2024. At just 13 years old, he became the youngest player ever to be signed in IPL history. Rajasthan Royals secured his services for ₹1.1 crore (approximately £104,000), surpassing his base price of ₹30 lakh. The bidding saw competition from Delhi Capitals before the Royals clinched the deal.
Early Life and Family Support
Vaibhav’s cricketing journey began at the age of four, practicing in a makeshift backyard pitch crafted by his father, Sanjiv, a farmer who sold his land to support his son’s aspirations. His mother played a crucial role as well, waking up at 4 a.m. daily to prepare his meals.
At nine, Vaibhav joined a cricket academy in Samastipur, where his talent quickly became evident. Under the mentorship of former Ranji player Manish Ojha, he honed his skills and progressed through Bihar’s cricketing ranks.
Domestic and Youth Cricket Achievements
Vaibhav made his first-class debut for Bihar in January 2024 at the age of 12 years and 284 days, becoming one of the youngest to do so in Indian cricket history. He also holds the distinction of being the youngest Indian to debut in List A cricket. His performances in the Vinoo Mankad Trophy and the Under-19 quadrangular series, where he scored a 58-ball century against Australia U-19s, showcased his exceptional talent.
IPL Breakthrough
In the 2024 IPL auction, Vaibhav was signed by the Rajasthan Royals for INR 1.1 crore, making him the youngest player to receive an IPL contract at age 13. He made his IPL debut on April 20, 2025, at 14, becoming the youngest player in the league’s history. In his debut match against Lucknow Super Giants, he impressed by hitting a six off his first ball and scoring 34 runs off 20 balls.
Record-Breaking Century In IPL 2025
On April 28, 2025, Vaibhav scored a remarkable 101 runs off 38 balls against Gujarat Titans, becoming the youngest centurion in men’s T20 cricket and recording the second-fastest century in IPL history. His innings included 11 sixes and seven fours, contributing to a 166-run opening partnership with Yashasvi Jaiswal and leading Rajasthan Royals to a dominant eight-wicket victory.
