The Rajasthan Royals (RR) are still mathematically alive in the playoff race, but their hopes are hanging by a thread. After winning just two of their nine games, they are currently placed near the bottom of the table.
With five games remaining, all must-win matches, their journey begins with a crucial clash against the Gujarat Titans at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur. Despite their slim chances, RR appear to have come to terms with the fact that their season might be over.
A series of close losses over the last few weeks, particularly in matches they were chasing, has further hurt their campaign. The team failed to chase small targets in the final overs against Delhi Capitals and Lucknow Super Giants, even losing to Royal Challengers Bangalore after being in control.

Shane Bond Reflects on Missed Opportunities
Speaking ahead of RR’s third home game, bowling coach Shane Bond openly admitted that the team is likely out of contention for a playoff spot. However, he emphasized that there’s still plenty to fight for in the remaining games, especially in preparing for the next season.
Bond expressed disappointment over how the team had played well for large portions of matches but failed to close out key moments.
“We’ve been competitive for about 35 overs in most games, but critical errors cost us. Credit must go to our opponents who seized those opportunities,” he said.
Bond acknowledged the frustration of seeing the team work hard but fall short repeatedly, reflecting on how different the points table could have looked if a few close games had gone their way.
Focus Shifts to Finishing Strong
Although the Rajasthan Royals have a very slim mathematical chance to make the playoffs, even winning all five remaining games may not guarantee them a spot. Nevertheless, the team is determined to give their best in the remaining matches. Bond stressed the importance of maintaining a strong mindset and energy level, not just for the team’s pride but also for individual players who will be keen to secure their future with the franchise.
He highlighted that despite the setbacks, the team must continue to approach each game with a fighting spirit. They aim to finish the season with pride, making life tough for every opponent they face while keeping an eye on building momentum for IPL 2026.
