WI vs IND: What Will Be The Ideal Place For Yashasvi Jaiswal To Bat If He Gets The Chance In The Playing XI?

During the West Indies Test series, Shubman Gill could replace Yashasvi Jaiswal at number three. Yashavsi Jaiswal’s inclusion in the Indian Test team for the West Indies tour was a risky move, but it is still unclear where the southpaw will bat if he is chosen for the playing XI.

Cheteshwar Pujara has been dropped from the Test team, so BCCI selectors are pushing Jaiswal to bat at number three. Most likely, Shubman Gill and Rohit Sharma will remain the opening duo.

Jaiswal will bat at number three despite typically playing as an opener for Mumbai in First-Class cricket, according to reports in the Indian Express. Gill has excelled as an opening batter across all formats, so Jaiswal can only play at number three.

The selectors’ choice of Jaiswal as the number has angered online users. Many fans thought Gill should bat at number three and Jaiswal should continue to open at least for his first Test series. “You want to create another Devdutt Padikkal, said one of the users.”

As opposed to Rohit, why not use him as the opener? Asked another user. He should open, and Gill in third place is preferable, according to another commenter. The selectors prefer that the GT opener stays in his natural position of the opening, even though Gill has batted at number three for Punjab in First-Class cricket.

According to Harsha Bhogle, “Gill will bat at position three during the Windies series. “I have a gut instinct, more than anything else, that Gill will eventually find a place at number three in Test cricket. It will be interesting if he competes in the West Indies with Jaiswal at the top,” he tweeted.

In his 16 Test matches for India, Gill never batted at the number three position.

Jaiswal has a chance to make the starting XI against the Windies after participating as a reserve in the WTC final squad. The 21-year-old cricketer is thrilled to play for India in a Test match. “I have been dreaming of this moment my entire life.” Starting on July 9, India will play two Test matches against the West Indies.
