Will Kane Williamson Play Against Mumbai Indians? He Himself Reveals

Kane Williamson’s absence was dearly felt by Sunrisers Hyderabad in their second straight defeat of the season against Delhi capitals on Thursday. Chasing 148, the Surisers fell short by six runs as the likes of Manish Pandey and Vijay Shankar messed up the chase after a good start. They taken on the mighty Mumbai Indians in their next match., Mumbai after losing the first game against RCB has won their second against Kolkata Knight Riders.

In a video uploaded on the SRH Twitter handle, Kane Williamson has himself given an update on his injury. The Kiwi skipper suffered a tear in his left elbow tendon and was subsequently ruled out of the ODI series against Bangladesh at home. However, New Zealand coach Gary Stead has said that the injury won’t affect Williamson’s IPL season as he’s expected to be fit in time to represent Sunrisers Hyderabad. However, he was not a part of the playing XI in the first two games.

Recovery Is Going Well: Kane Williamson

“Recovery is going really well and you know it’s been focused to get pain free as quickly as possible, and we are certainly tracking really nicely and hoping to be fit and ready within the week,” Williamson can be heard saying in the video.

“It’s been a bit of balance between practice and rehab and sorts of things. But, for most part, the progression has been really good. So, pretty optimistic about being close to full fitness very soon,” Williamson added.

New Zealand are also aiming to keep their captain fit for the upcoming events including Test tour of England and the ICC T20 World Cup in India later this year. “We’ve got a huge year of cricket ahead with an England Test tour and ICC World Test Championship Final first up in May and June, and we want to make sure we have Kane fit and firing for that,” Stead said.

The New Zealand skipper was retained by the Hyderabad-based franchise for the 2021 season of the IPL. He was a part of the SRH squad which won the IPL title back in 2016.
