MS Dhoni tonight will be captaining the Chennai Super Kings against Punjab Kings in Mumbai. Dhoni will have to be mighty careful in the match with regards to the slow over-rate. In the opening match against DC, Dhoni’s CSK maintained a poor over rate which is why the CSK skipper was penalised a whopping Rs. 12 lakhs.
Now, if CSK maintains a slow over-rate again in tonight’s match against PBKS, Dhoni then will be on the verge of facing a one-match suspension which will be a huge blow to the franchise. Dhoni as skipper is known to make quick bowling changes and fielding changes but in the last match, even he looked a bit rusty as he was playing a competitive match after almost 6 months.
CSK Skipper MS Dhoni On The Verge Of Facing One Match Ban
Tonight Dhoni will certainly have a lot on his plate as skipper and will be keen to complete the 20 overs in the allocated time of 1 hour and 30 minutes. Meanwhile, as far as the over-rate rule for IPL 2021 is concerned, BCCI has taken stern measures to ensure that all the eight teams and match officials finish an innings of the matches within 1 hour and 30 mins. Now, according to the rule, if the captain replicates the offence once again in their next match, then as a two-timer offender, steps will be taken by the IPL authorities.
The match referee will have to take a decision in that scenario and the captain can face a hefty fine of up to INR 24 lakh. Additionally, if the slow over-rate offence is repeated for the third time in the season, then MS Dhoni will be banned for one match and also face a penalty of Rs 30 lakh.
Talking about the previous match, Dhoni had an ordinary day with the bat as well as he scored a 2 ball duck and CSK comprehensively lost their opening encounter of IPL 2021. Tonight when Dhoni steps on the field it will be his 200th match for his beloved CSK franchise and he will be hoping that it is a memorable one for his side and they register their first win of the season.
