The inaugural edition of the U19 Women’s T20 World Cup is all set to get underway in South Africa on Saturday, January 14. The final of the tournament will take place on 29 January 2023. The teams are gearing up for the mega-event with warm-up matches to get acquainted with the conditions on offer. The Indian team will kick off its campaign against the hosts South Africa on January 14.
The Shafali Verma-led team played a six-match T20I series against South Africa Women’s U19 team. They won the series 4-0, as the second and the third game getting abandoned due to rain. Shweta Sehrawat was the leading run-scorer for India, while Falak Naz was the leading wicket-taker for the team. Team India began with their warm-up games on Monday, defeating Australia by 18 runs. Hrishita Basu scored a gutsy 28 while Shafali Verma picked up three wickets, in the game.
India will take on Bangladesh next on January 11 in their second warm-up game. In the group stages of the U19 Women’s T20 World Cup, Team India is in Group D along with South Africa, United Arab Emirates, and Scotland.
