The Royal Challengers Bangalore suffered another disappointing loss in the 2023 Women’s Premier League. They lost to the UP Warriorz by 10 wickets on Friday, March 10 at the Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai. This was their fourth consecutive defeat in the tournament, and they are reeling at the bottom of the table with no points.
Skipper Smriti Mandhana opened up on their dismal performance in the league so far. She admitted that it was her responsibility to get the team off to a good start. The left-hander took the blame for the team’s performance. She said after the loss against UP Warriorz,
“I think in the last four games, it has been happening. We start well and we lose a cluster of wickets. I will take the blame as well. As a top-order batter, we need to put up runs on the board for the bowlers to defend.”
“We spoke about it before this match that we will try to take 7-8 runs per over but it did not work out today. As top-order batters, we need to bat well and put up a good total to defend,” she added.
Lots to reflect and lots to work on: Smriti Mandhana
Royal Challengers Bangalore skipper Smriti Mandhana further expressed that the team is trying to find the right balance in the tournament. She has individually spoken to the players, boosting their confidence. However, the southpaw added that the team has a lot to work on in the 2023 Women’s Premier League. She said,
“We are trying to get a balanced team that can win us a game. I have tried to speak to almost all the players, and pep them up and I have to keep doing it. Last week has been tough. Lots to reflect and lots to work on.”
Batting first, Royal Challengers Bangalore was bowled out for 138 runs. Ellyse Perry was the lone fighter in the innings. She slammed 52 runs off 39 deliveries, with six boundaries and six. In response, UP Warriorz chased down the target without loss. UP Warriorz skipper Alyssa Healy remained unbeaten on 96 runs, while Devika Vaidya scored 36 runs.
