One day after he was included in Bengal’s 22-member squad for the Ranji Trophy quarterfinal, reports have emerged that senior cricketer Wriddhiman Saha is contemplating leaving Bengal. He has also reportedly claimed a No Objection Certificate (NOC) for the same.

A report in Sportstar claimed that the 37-year-old wicket-keeper batter had a long conversation with CAB President Abhishek Dalmiya on Tuesday, where he indicated that he may no longer play for Bengal.

Incidentally, the decision comes after a CAB official questioned his commitments when the celebrated cricketer decided to skip the league phase of the Ranji Trophy due to personal reasons. Wriddhiman Saha’s wife Romi Mitra also confirmed that the comment from the CAB official has left Saha disheartened and he has made up his mind to not represent Bengal any further.

“A few months ago, when Wriddhi decided to skip the Ranji Trophy league stage due to personal reasons, a certain CAB official gave a statement to the media doubting his commitment. Being a senior player, who has given so much to Bengal cricket, Wriddhi was hurt with such statements,” Romi said to Sportstar.

“After the squad was announced last night, he spoke to Mr. Dalmiya today and discussed the entire issue. The CAB president told him to reconsider and play the knockouts, but Wriddhi told him that he is not in a position to play for Bengal again, after so many questions were raised about his commitment,” she added.

Wriddhiman Saha to decide on his future after IPL 2022

The India international, who was recently dropped from the Test side, is currently playing in the ongoing IPL 2022. He has had a good stint in the competition so far representing Gujarat Titans, who currently sit at the top of the points table.

Wriddhiman Saha has amassed 281 runs in eight games opening the batting at a healthy average of 40.14, including three fifties. He along with Shubman Gill has provided fiery starts to the Gujarat setup.

The cricketer plans to take a call on the future after the IPL. According to Romi, the CAB did not even check with Saha about his availability before naming the squad for the knockouts.

In a statement, CAB president Dalmiya said, “Any discussion between a player and organisation is strictly between the player and the organisation. I would like to completely refrain from making any comments at this stage.”

It remains to be seen whether the CAB manages to convince Wriddhiman Saha and make him play for Bengal in the upcoming knockout games.
