Gujarat Titans (GT) opening batter Shubman Gill shut down trolls on Twitter after his knock against the Lucknow Super Giants was criticized heavily. Shubman scored 63 runs off 49 balls for the Titans in the first innings at the MCA Stadium in Pune.

The Gujarat Titans won the toss and opted to bat first. Wicket-keeper Wriddhiman Saha got out early in the innings for just five runs by Mohsin Khan. As wickets fell from the other, Shubman Gill took his time to hold one end of the batting. The surface was tricky, which provided a challenge for the batter to score quickly.

Soon the Gujarat Titans were reduced to 51 runs for three down in around nine overs. David Miller and Rahul Tewatia made valuable contributions in the middle order to take the team to 144 runs. Meanwhile, Shubman Gill brought up his fifty for the side, which proved to be very crucial for the team. His knock included seven boundaries and came at a strike rate of 128.57.

However, Shubman Gill’s knock was trolled by a few fans on social media. The Indian cricketer came up with a savage reply to the trolls. He tweeted emojis of a tortoise and of a hare, indicating that ‘slow and steady wins the race’.

Always pleasing when you’re there till the end – Shubman Gill

Shubman Gill’s knock turned out to be the difference in the end, as the Lucknow Super Giants lacked an anchor in the match, who could hold one end. The KL Rahul-led team was bowled out for a paltry 82 runs, handing Gujarat Titans a win by 62 runs.

The 22-year-old won the Player of the Match for his valuable contribution. Speaking at the post-match presentation, Shubman expressed his joy in finishing the match for his team. He also spoke about the wicket at the MCA Stadium in Pune.

“Always pleasing when you’re there till the end and finish the game for your team. I didn’t expect the ball to seam as much at the start. It was nipping around, and then I expected the spinners to get some turn. I think they didn’t bowl up much. Had Krunal pitched it up, it would have been tougher. It helped us turn the singles over,” said Shubman Gill.

With this win, Gujarat Titans became the first team to secure the playoff spot in the Indian Premier League 2022 season. They have 18 points from twelve matches, in the league stages so far.
