New Zealand beat India by eight wickets in the rain-affected ICC World Test Championship final in Southampton to be the first-ever World Test Champions.
New Zealand Skipper Kane Williamson believes that the One-off final provides an exciting set-up but never really depicts the whole picture about how formidable the Indian side is.
“The set-up provides excitement. One-off final, it never really tells the whole picture,” Kane Williamson told to India Today.

Kane Williamson added that they are proud of defeating India in the final, but that doesn’t take away anything from the Indian team.
“As we know, this Indian team is a formidable side. It’s a great side and we are proud to achieve a win in this match but it doesn’t take away anything from the fact that how strong they are and what quality they have.”
He also stated that the Indian pace attack is the best ever and has no doubt that the current Indian team will win plenty more matches.
“No doubt they will win plenty more, you know their quality. They are relentless, they have a pace-attack which is best in the world, incredible spin bowlers and batting needs no mention. The depth that they have created,” Williamson continued.
Kane Williamson termed the Indian players as great ambassadors of the game. He said that he loves the passion that the fans have for their side.
“Emotion that a country brings for sport, we can all appreciate having India and their passion is rewarding. They (players) hold themselves as ambassadors of the game.”
Kohli’s and Pujara’s Dismissals set the game up: Kane Williamson
Kane Williamson agreed that Virat Kohli and Cheteshwar Pujara’s wicket early on day 6 set the game up for the kiwis.
“It was great to take early wickets, that set up more chances of result on that day. India team counter-attacked after that and India had a fair shot too. The surface was offering to bowlers. It was intense for us.”
The Black Caps skipper lauded his teammate Kyle Jamieson’s efforts. The tall and lanky fast bowler returned with seven wickets including a five-wicket haul and accounted for some big wickets including Virat Kohli twice. Kane Williamson said:
“He is a brilliant player. New to international scene and just brought his own attitude, the ‘team first’ attitude, wanting to contribute with ball and bat as well. It is vital for us. He has bowled so many significant spells. Has huge appetite to learn and improve. He wants to bowl and bowl and brings in the real point of difference.”
