Kyle Jamieson was the star of the day for New Zealand as he bagged a five-wicket haul on Sunday to bowl India out for a petty 217 in the first innings. The Indian skipper Virat Kohli walked out to bat along with his deputy Ajinkya Rahane on Day 3 of the World Test Championship Final at The Rose Bowl, Southampton.
Kohli’s stay at the crease was cut short by Kyle Jamieson as he trapped Kohli LBW plumb in front of the wickets. When asked at the virtual post-day press conference about whether it was a well-set plan against Kohli, Jamieson said :
“Oh, I guess yes. Maybe there is some sort of pattern and this we know talk about a huge amount, the one that I was able to get him (Kohli) today certainly seamed back a little bit. And that was pretty hard to control as a bowler and pretty harder to manage as a batter no matter who you are. So I don’t think it is necessarily just for him.”

Virat Kohli’s wicket set the day for us: Kyle Jamieson
Kyle Jamieson also emphasized how Kohli’s wicket hampered India’s chances to go big. Team India resumed Day 3 on 146/3 but were bowled out on 217 as Kyle Jamieson scalped the wicket of Jasprit Bumrah and became the first kiwi bowler to get his fifth five-for within his first 8 tests.
Jamieson also leads the tally of claiming most fifers (five) in the World Test Championship surpassing the likes of R Ashwin, Nathon Lyon, and Axar Patel (four).
“Yeah, obviously he (Kohli) is a massive part of their team and pretty big wicket to get, so to get him early morning, was I guess nice and pleasing and pretty crucial for how the day followed,” added the Kiwi pacer.
Bad light forced an early end to the day’s play with NZ having lost both their openers at 101/2 trailing by 116 runs.
