Team India opener Shubman Gill has rued that bad light took the chances to have a go at Ross Taylor at the fag end of day 3 of the ongoing ICC World Test Championship final against New Zealand at the Rose Bowl in Southampton.

The Black Caps got off to a flying start in reply to India’s first innings score of 217 runs. Tom Latham and Devon Conway added 70 runs for the first wicket before Ravichandran Ashwin broke the deadlock. He removed Latham before Ishant Sharma removed Conway.

India were shying a chance to have a crack at Ross Taylor and Kane Williamson before bad light stopped the day’s play. Shubman Gill believes they missed a good chance of going against Kiwi batters when the momentum was on their side.

“Conway was a crucial wicket for us and I feel that if we would have been able to bowl a few overs to Ross Taylor, we might have been able to get couple of more wickets,” said Gill during the the virtual media conference.

“We would have a slight edge tomorrow as both batsmen (Taylor and Kane Williamson) are relatively new at the crease,” Gill said.

Low scores against New Zealand is a concern: Shubman Gill

New Zealand ended at 101 for two with Devon Conway (54) being dismissed at the stroke of stumps before bowling out India for 217 runs. Shubman Gill admitted that it’s been a problem as they have now failed to cross 250 against New Zealand on five successive occasions.

“I think the Tests we played in New Zealand (in 2020), we didn’t have too much time to prepare as the focus was more on ODIs and T20s. As you said, we haven’t been able to cross 250 in the last five Tests.

“This Test also we were in a solid position but we lost couple of early wickets today. But hopefully if we get some time, in next innings, we will cross 250,” he replied.
