IPL 2018: Prithvi Shaw & Shreyas Iyer power Delhi Daredevils to a big win against KKR

Delhi Daredevils registered a big win over Kolkata Knight Riders by 55 runs in the 26th match of IPL 2018 played at Feroz Shah Kotla Stadium, New Delhi. KKR captain Dinesh Karthik won the toss and bowled first. Great batting by Shaw, Collin Munro and captain Iyer helped DD post a big total of 219 for 4. While KKR lost wickets at regular intervals, were restricted to just 164 for 9.

Kolkata Knight Riders captain Dinesh Karthik won the toss and invited Delhi Daredevils in to bat. In today’s match, Gambhir was dropped from the playing XI. Collin Munro and young Prithvi Shaw came to open the innings. Both of them started on an aggressive stroke play. At the end of 6 overs, Delhi Daredevils scored 57 for 0.

India under 19 bowler Shivam Mavi dismissed dangerous Collin Munro for 33 off 18 balls. The first wicket fell at the score of 59. The young Prithvi Shaw and the new captain of Delhi Daredevils side Iyer continued their positive aggression. Shaw reached his first IPL half-century off 38 balls. Both Shaw and Iyer added 68 runs for the second wicket.

Young Shaw was dismissed for 62 off 44 balls. Pant could not open his account as he was dismissed for 0. Shreyas Iyer and Glenn Maxwell took on the Kolkata Knight Riders bowlers. Iyer reached his half-century off 29 balls. Maxwell also contributed quick fire 27 off 18 balls. In the last over, Iyer smashed Shivam Mavi for 29 runs and remained not out on 93 off 40 balls with 3 fours and 10 sixes. Iyer and Maxwell added 73 runs in quick time.

Delhi Daredevils posted a massive total of 219 for 4 in 20 overs. It was an aggressive batting display by Iyer smashed the KKR bowlers to all parts of the ground.

Chasing 220, Kolkata Knight Riders lost wickets of Chris Lynn and Robin Uthappa in pursuit of chasing down a massive total. Sunil Narine after scoring 26 off 9 balls was dismissed by Trent Boult. Avesh Khan dismissed Nitish Rana for 8 runs to leave KKR at 46 for 4. At the end of 6 overs, KKR struggled at 51 for 4.

KKR captain Dinesh Karthik and Shubman Gill added 31 runs for the 5th wicket before Karthik was dismissed by Amit Mishra.

Andre Russell came to the crease and looked in terrific hitting form. Shubman Gill and Russell added 64 runs off 38 balls before Gill was run out for 37 runs. The asking was too much for Russell as he was dismissed for 44 off 30 balls by Avesh Khan.

KKR scored 164 for 9 in 20 overs. Delhi Daredevils won the match by 55 runs to register their second win of the tournament.

For DD, Trent Boult, Avesh Khan, Glenn Maxwell and Amit Mishra picked 2 wickets each

DD 219 for 4 in 20 overs ( Iyer 93*, Shaw 62, Chawla 1/33, Russell 1/28) beat

KKR 164 for 9 in 20 overs ( Russell 44, Shubman Gill 37, Avesh Khan 2/29, Amit Mishra 2/23) by 55 runs.

KKR captain Dinesh Karthik said: The target was big enough. Delhi Daredevils batted much better than us. Our fielding was not up to the mark as we dropped too many catches. With big games coming up, we need increase our standards.

DD captain and Man of the match Shreyas Iyer said: It’s a brilliant feeling to win a match for Delhi. All of us contributed and helped us to win the match by a big margin. Batting first gave us the freedom to express ourselves. Shaw has been batting brilliantly since the start of the season while Collin Munro with Shaw gave us a good 50 runs stand for the opening wicket.

Last time these two teams met in this year’s IPL, KKR crushed DD by 71 runs at Eden Garden’s.

Chennai Super Kings will take on Mumbai Indians at MCA Stadium, Pune in tomorrow’s match.
