In the recently concluded tournament, Mithali scored 409 runs in 9 matches with 3 fifties and a hundred. She led the team with an example and took her team to the finals as much was not expected out of this team. A relatively inexperienced team defeated three heavyweight teams like England, New Zealand in the group stages and Australia in the semifinals before losing out to England in the finals by 9 runs in a close encounter.

She overtook the English stalwart Charlotte Edwards 5992 runs to become the highest run-getter in ODI’s. She became the only women cricketer to score more than 6000 runs in one-day internationals with an average of 51.58.

In a TV show recently Mithali was heard talking about what kind of problems she had to face growing up as a cricketer in a country like India. She said while her parents had full faith and encouraged her to play the game, her other relatives would often criticize her parents for their decision. It was because of her parent’s sacrifices she can continue to play until now.

She also mentioned how the boys flirted with her while she was fielding in the boundary line in a match at Asansol during her first year at Railways. After that, she narrated the story to the captain of the team and requested her that she be allowed to field in the circle.

In a candid chat, the TV anchor asked her whether she likes anyone from the Bollywood industry as many male cricketers have girlfriends and wives who belong from the industry as well. Mithali got very shy and said that she likes Amir Khan but unfortunately he is married.
