The Pakistan cricket team booked their place in the final of the 2022 T20 World Cup by defeating New Zealand in the semi-final on Wednesday, November 9 at the Sydney Cricket Ground. At one stage, it looked like Pakistan would bow out of the tournament early. However, they pulled things back to reach the final of the tournament. Former India cricketer Wasim Jaffer heaped praise on Pakistan’s comeback at the 2022 T20 World Cup.
The Babar Azam-led team lost their first two matches of the tournament. However, they won the remaining three and qualified for the knock-out stages. Pakistan’s win against New Zealand in the semi-finals powered them to the final of the T20 World Cup. Former India cricketer Wasim Jaffer acknowledged Pakistan’s comeback and stated on BatBricks7 presents ‘Run Ki Runneeti show’ on CricTracker,
“Reaching the grand stage after 13 years would mean a lot to the side. Because, at one stage it felt like they were going home, we have never seen fortune change so much in such little time. On the day of the Bangladesh fixture, it did feel like they were heading back home.”
“Many players and members of the management may have even packed their bags. But who would have thought that the Netherlands would beat South Africa the way they did and hand a chance to Pakistan?” he added.
I have never seen fortune change like this ever: Wasim Jaffer
Former India cricketer Wasim Jaffer further expressed that he has never witnessed a turnout like Pakistan’s. He added that the team that will reach the finals to play against Pakistan, will be wary of their current form. Wasim Jaffer said to Crictracker,
“So, on that day they would be thinking to themselves that a failed campaign, could not get ahead and things suddenly took a turn, the Netherlands win, Pakistan then beat Bangladesh and qualified, and then they play such good cricket against New Zealand. I have never seen fortune change like this ever, hats off to them that they peaked at the right time. So, any team that will be facing Pakistan in the final, will be worried!”
The final of the 2022 T20 World Cup will take place on Sunday, November 13 at the Melbourne Cricket Ground.
