The All India Senior Selection Committee has recently announced the Indian squad for the upcoming New Zealand tour. The tour which consists of three ODIs and as many T20Is, India’s key player will be absent.
For this tour, Shikhar Dhawan will be the captain of the ODI team and Hardik Pandya has been given the captaincy of the T20I team. In the absence of key players, many young players have been given a chance for the tour, but some deserving players are not included in the ODI squad.
In this article, we will look at three players who should have got a chance in the Indian team for the ODI series against New Zealand.
#1 Rahul Tripathi
Maharashtra’s dashing player Rahul Tripathi has consistently performed well in the past few years in domestic cricket and IPL. Tripathi has been included in India’s squad for the past few tours, but his omission for the tour of New Zealand in the absence of key players is surprising.
Importantly, Tripathi has been included in the Indian squad for the ODI series against Bangladesh, so it is not really known why he was not included in the squad against New Zealand.
#2 Mohammed Shami
Mohammad Shami, who got a chance due to Jasprit Bumrah’s injury in the T20 World Cup, has not been included in the Indian squad for the ODI series against New Zealand. Mohammad Shami is one of India’s leading fast bowlers and he has not even played much ODI cricket in the past.
Therefore, it was necessary to include Shami in the team for the ODI series against New Zealand to get into the rhythm, but the selection committee has given chance to other bowlers instead of Shami.
#3 Rajat Patidar
Rajat Patidar was included in the Indian squad for the ODI series against South Africa a few weeks back. Patidar was expected to make his ODI debut against South Africa but he did not get the chance. And now he has not been included in the Indian team in the series against New Zealand.
Patidar has performed well in IPL 2022 as well as domestic cricket in the past year and can be a key player for the Indian team in the middle order. A good thing for Patidar is that he has been included in the India squad for the ODI series against Bangladesh.
