Veteran India all-rounder Hardik Pandya has captained India in 16 games in the shortest format, a feat only surpassed by three other players. Nonetheless, it appears that a fresh captain has been named for Men in Blue.
So far, Suryakumar Yadav has been in charge of the side’s seven T20 matches which confirms that he will now lead them during their assignment against Sri Lanka. When they head to Pallekele, India is expected to participate in three T20Is, with the first match set for July 27th.
The reasons for the shift are still unclear. News reports have indicated that Gautam Gambhir and Ajit Agarkar will hold a news conference soon, but this occurrence has been rare of late. Nonetheless, it is not difficult to see the sense in this change of command by the policy-makers.
Here are the 3 Reasons Why Appointing Suryakumar Yadav As India’s T20I Captain Is The Correct Decision:
#1 Suryakumar Yadav has a reasonable amount of experience as captain
Aside from having captained India on seven occasions at T20Is, Suryakumar Yadav is no stranger to leadership. He has captained the Mumbai team several times as well as some other local teams and even got his hands on guiding one IPL game involving the Mumbai Indians.
Suryakumar, who is 33 years old, has been a veteran. Since he has gone through the domestic grind and has been an IPL regular for over a decade, he is best placed among any other talented batter to fill in his spot instead of his close friend Rohit Sharma. Such words can also be used to describe Hardik Pandya.
#2 Hardik Pandya’s captaincy career hasn’t gone smoothly
Throughout the years Hardik Pandya’s career has been marred by controversies and injury problems, and so he has always had one or the other posts as an incredible all-rounder who makes any team stronger, even though everything has not been easy for him.
Hardik was criticized for being too much absorbed in himself as the Gujarat Titans’ captain, neglecting to involve his teammates in the game. Frequently, he would take the new ball first instead of specialized bowlers and would place bowling his full overs over others.
Things did not improve after Hardik moved to Mumbai Indians in controversial circumstances. Reports suggested that there was disunity in the team and he had a bad season being thirty years old.
He has not gotten the hang of what it takes to lead a team in terms of making sure every player is happy in addition to managing all the other duties required by his position. Being a good cricket player does not necessarily make one who leads well.
#3 SKY is a calm individual who is one of the first names on the teamsheet
There is no doubt of his place in the T20I side by Suryakumar Yadav. And it’s a good sign to see this, especially having gone through endless doubts from the questioning that was being done to Rohit even Virat Kohli.
Suryakumar is in shape and he merely competes in one format for the Men in Blue implying that he can always play. Besides, he keeps his cool and enjoys a great rapport with virtually any other member of his team. SKY appears prepared to lead India well in the T20s and has everything it takes for this role.
