As the IPL 2025 mega auction approaches, there’s ongoing debate about which players each franchise should target to strengthen their squads. One crucial aspect for any team is having a seasoned Indian fast bowler who can lead the pace attack and mentor younger players.
With numerous Indian fast bowlers available in the upcoming auction, bidding wars are expected. Among the notable names is Mohammed Siraj, who has become a key bowler for India across all formats.
Ahead of the 2025 season, Siraj was released by Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), a decision that took many by surprise, as he was expected to be retained by the franchise.
Mohammed Siraj has featured in 93 IPL matches, taking 93 wickets at an economy rate of 8.65. He also offers valuable international experience. As the 2025 mega auction approaches, here are three teams that should target Mohammed Siraj:
#1 Royal Challengers Bengaluru
Although RCB released Siraj ahead of the 2025 season, there’s a chance the franchise may use the Right to Match (RTM) option to re-sign him. Siraj has been with RCB since 2018 and steadily grew into one of the team’s key players. His standout performance came in IPL 2023, where he claimed 19 wickets.
Considering his familiarity with the Chinnaswamy Stadium and his deep connection with the franchise after seven seasons, RCB should consider bringing Siraj back into their squad.
#2 Lucknow Super Giants
Lucknow Super Giants have retained two young Indian pacers, Mayank Yadav and Mohsin Khan, for the 2025 season. While Mayank is known for his express pace, fitness issues have kept him out of the previous season. Mohammed Siraj would be an ideal addition to this squad, given his international experience and multiple seasons of IPL expertise.
The Super Giants have been lacking a seasoned Indian pacer, and Siraj could fill that gap perfectly. Furthermore, his presence would be valuable in mentoring and guiding the likes of Mayank Yadav and Mohsin Khan, while also leading the pace attack.
#3 Gujarat Titans
Gujarat Titans have not retained any fast bowlers ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction, meaning they will likely be on the lookout for quality pacers after parting ways with Mohammed Shami, Mohit Sharma, and Umesh Yadav. While they could use their RTM option to re-sign one of these pacers, they will still need to strengthen their pace attack further.
If they do bring Shami back, having two international Indian pacers in the squad would certainly enhance their bowling options. Moreover, Gujarat Titans’ coach Ashish Nehra, who previously worked with Siraj during his time at RCB, would bring a valuable level of familiarity and understanding to their partnership.
