A century in a T20 game is one of the biggest achievements a batsman can have in the format. Some of the batsmen in the IPL have completely dominated the sphere and their individual performances have led their teams to one-sided victories.

In this article, we will go through the top five highest individual scores in the history of IPL. Surprisingly four of the top five scores have been scored at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bangalore.


5. AB de Villiers – 129 Runs

AB produced one of the finest knocks in IPL history when RCB locked horns with Gujarat Lions in the 2016 IPL season. Coming to bat at number three, he played blistering innings of 129 runs off 52 balls with 10 fours and 12 maximums.

He displayed every shot which was present in his armoury. The Royal Challengers skipper Virat Kohli also scored a century in that match. Riding on the Kohli-De Villiers partnership, RCB posted 248 runs on the board and won the contest by 144 runs, which also the biggest margin of victory for any team in the history of IPL.

4. KL Rahul – 132 Runs

KL Rahul has emerged as a majorly consistent and attacking T20 opener in IPL ever since his acquisition with Punjab Kings (then Kings XI Punjab) in 2018. In IPL 2020, while playing the second match of the season against RCB, KL Rahul scored his second IPL hundred while making a bright start to his IPL season.

He rampaged through the gears before staying unbeaten on 132 as Punjab posted a score of 206/3 in their 20 overs. His knock included 14 fours and seven sixes which proved decisive in the context of the game. For his ballistic efforts, KL Rahul was awarded the Man of the Match Award.

3. AB de Villiers – 133 Runs

Ab de Villiers is arguably one of the best batsmen of our generation. He is often regarded as “MR.360” because of his ability to score all around the ground. Over the years he has entertained the fans with his unique batting style.

In the 2015 IPL season, he scored a scintillating knock of 133 of 59 balls against Mumbai Indians. All Mumbai Indians bowlers looked clueless in front of AB de Villiers. RCB posted a huge total of 235 runs courtesy of a great partnership between Virat and De Villiers.

Both put together 215 runs standing for the second wicket. RCB won that game by 39 runs.

2. Brendon McCullum – 158 Runs

Former New Zealand skipper Brendon McCullum has produced many enthralling innings with the bat in the past. He set the stage on fire in the very first match of inaugural edition of IPL. Coming to bat at top of the order, he scored 158 of 78 deliveries with 10 fours and 13 gigantic sixes plying his trade for Kolkata Knight Riders at the Eden Gardens.

He smashed the RCB ballers all over the park. He single-handedly boosted the KKR to a mammoth score of 222. KKR won that game by a big margin of 140 runs.

1. Chris Gayle – 175 Runs

Chris Gayle is one of the finest and most feared batsmen in world cricket. He is arguably the greatest match-winner in T20 cricket. He has produced many breathtaking innings over the years. This man can hit sixes at a will.

He produced one of the finest innings in T20 cricket against the Pune Warriors India in the 2013 edition of IPL. He single-handedly tormented the bowling attack of the Pune Warriors. Coming to bat at top of the order, on the Bangalore wicket which was tailor-made for the batters Gayle scored 175 of just 66 balls with 17 sixes and 13 fours at a strike rate of 265.15.

He made a mockery of bowlers in that innings. RCB posted a mammoth total of 263 runs and they eventually won the game by a big margin of 130 runs. Gayle was the second-highest run-getter in that season with 708 runs.
