Royal Challengers Bangalore Thank Punjab Kings For Glenn Maxwell; Gets Trolled Later

Royal Challengers Bangalore all-rounder Glenn Maxwell had an excellent debut when Virat Kohli & Co locked horns with Mumbai Indians in IPL 2021 opener at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. The Aussie cricketer scored 39 off 28 balls, laced with three fours and two sixes, and added a 52-run partnership with skipper Virat Kohli paving way for Bangalore’s victory.

Maxwell came ahead of AB de Villiers at No. 4 and took his time to get settled before unleashing his shots against the Mumbai bowlers. One of the most striking features of Maxwell’s knock was a 100-meter six that went almost out of Chepauk which had Virat Kohli in complete shock.

Glenn Maxwell copped criticism for scoring only 108 runs in 13 matches without hitting a single six in IPL 2020 in the UAE. Maxwell’s being massively out of form meant that Kings XI Punjab (now known as Punjab Kings) had trouble finishing a few games and missing out on a playoffs spot. But the all-rounder was still been in demand and franchises involved in a dogfight to secure Maxwell in the IPL 2021 auction.

Punjab Kings hit back at Royal Challengers Bangalore

Royal Challengers Bangalore won the battle as they bought Glenn Maxwell for INR 14.25 crores and the all-rounder paid dividends from the first match. In the wake of it, Royal Challengers Bangalore’s official Twitter handle thanked Punjab Kings for releasing Glenn Maxwell, who hit a six in IPL for the first time since 2018.

Punjab Kings hit back by expressing their gratefulness for having Chris Gayle, Mandeep Singh, KL Rahul, Sarfaraz Khan, and Mayank Agarwal – all of who used to play for the Royal Challengers at one point.

Speaking of the game, AB de Villiers played a valiant knock of 48 runs to seal a victory in favour of Royal Challengers Bangalore by two wickets in pursuit of 160 runs set by Mumbai Indians. RCB’s second match is against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) on April 14 (Wednesday) at the same MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.
