Shreyas Iyer will not feature in IPL 2021 playing for the Delhi Capitals. He was ruled out of the season after he dislocated his shoulder in the first ODI against England. The franchise named Rishabh Pant as the captain of the side for the season. The youngster will lead his side in their season opener against Chennai Super Kings later tonight in Mumbai. Ahead of the same, Iyer shared a message to his Delhi teammates saying that they will always have his support throughout the season.

Ahead of Delhi’s first game, Shreyas Iyer posted a 41-second video on Twitter, where he is speaking about his support for the franchise. Iyer further said that the Delhi outfit has worked extremely hard and concluded by saying that they will always ‘find him in their corner’.

Shreyas Iyer Pens Emotional Message For Delhi Capitals

“Dear Delhi. I speak to you today as a fellow fan of the team we love. We fight the same fight, we always did. We know it won’t be easy, but we know we’ve got what it takes to raise the cup. We have worked hard, harder than before. We have put in the yards, harder than before. And the best part, we go beyond than just a team. Make no mistake about it. Every ball, every game, you will have me in your corner. Your biggest supporter, with the loudest cheer. Come on Delhi, Roar macha. Love always, Shreyas,” said an emotional Shreyas Iyer in the video.

Shreyas Iyer suffered the injury during the first ODI against England in Pune on March 23 when he dived to stop a shot by Jonny Bairstow off pacer Shardul Thakur. The injury ruled him out of not only the IPL season but also the IPL.

Under Iyer, Delhi reached the final of IPL for the very first time in the history of their campaign. They lost to Mumbai Indians in the final as the Rohit Sharma-led side won their fifth IPL title and twice back to back in 2019 and 2020. Delhi capitals face Chennai Super Kings in their season opener later tonight in Mumbai.
