Virender Sehwag Compares IPL Logo To AB De Villiers

AB De Villiers was once again to the rescue of Royal Challengers Bangalore in the IPL 2021 season opener against Mumbai Indians. He scored a brisk 27-ball 48 to help his side win the first game of the season. This was the very first time that RCB won their first game whenever they played the first game of any IPL season. With RCB 103 for 4 in the 15th over, the side was in a bit of bother when AB De Villiers walked out to bat. He yet again took the side out of trouble and almost took them home before he was run out in the final over of the game with the side needing seven runs in the final over.

Meanwhile, former Indian cricketer Virender Sehwag was impressed by De Villier’s batting display. The maverick cricketer announced his international retirement in May 2018 handing over the Protean captaincy duties to Faf Du Plessis back then. Impressed by  AB De Villiers’ batting genius, Sehwag by a tweet said that the IPL logo is designed on De Villiers himself.

IPL Logo Inspired By AB De Villiers: Virennder Sehwag

“Will power = De villiers Power. Defeats all power. No wonder the @IPL logo is secretly designed after @ABdeVilliers17. Champion knock. But Patel Bhai ke raaz mein , RCB bowling mazaa aaya. Top spell 5/27. Is saal cup aande , no vaandey” Sehwag wrote on Twitter.

Courtesy of their win in the first game of the season, RCB are topping the points table at the moment. However, this is just the start of the season and the points table will see a shift in standing after almost every match.

Batting first Mumbai Indians scored 159/9. Skipper Rohit Sharma was run out for 19. Playing his first match for the franchise, Chris Lynn top-scored with 49. No major contributions from the middle-order saw Mumbai set a below-par total.

In reply, AB De Villiers played a matchwinning innings after RCB skipper Virat Kohli (33) and Glenn Maxwell (39) played their part as well.

AB De Villiers and Harshal Patel were the two architects of RCB’s win in the first game of the season. It was also the side’s first win in IPL openers. While De Villiers scored a brisk 48, Patel’s five for 27 ensured that Mumbai could not score an imposing total batting first.
