Mumbai Indians skipper Rohit Sharma came up with a brilliant message for the extinct species Rhino during the IPL 2021 opener against Royal Challengers Bangalore at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. Incidentally, Rohit had joined WWF India as its Brand Ambassador for Rhino Conservation in 2018, to help build awareness of the need to conserve the Greater One-Horned Rhinoceros or the Indian Rhino.

During the first game against Virat Kohli & Co, Rohit Sharma wore a special kind of shoes with the message ‘save the rhinos‘. The spikes also had a rhino inked on them with the caption, ‘seeing possibilities‘. Rohit Sharma’s love for nature is nothing new and the star cricketer has once again come forward to do his bit.

Kevin Pietersen, who is an active volunteer for the save rhino campaign, came up with a tweet to thank Rohit Sharma for his brilliant gesture. The former England cricketer has been tirelessly working with this species to save them from them getting extinct.

“The great mams boots last night in the @IPL opener. @ImRo45 continually playing for a cause – SAVING RHINOS!” Kevin Pietersen wrote on Twitter.

Previously, in a campaign launched on Animal Planet to commemorate World Rhino Day on September 22, Rohit pledged to do his bit to save the “vulnerable” species from extinction. WWF-India has been working on rhino conservation for over four decades and has been instrumental in many milestones and successes in protecting the Greater One-Horned Rhino or the Indian Rhino.

Meanwhile, speaking of the game, Rohit Sharma & Co’s losing streak in the first matches of IPL continued as they lost nine matches at a stretch. Batting first, Mumbai Indians posted 159 runs on the back of a brilliant knock by Chris Lynn. While Royal Challengers Bangalore made a rollicking start to the run chase, Mumbai came back in the middle-overs with a couple of wickets but AB de Villiers‘ 48-run knock, in the end, made the difference between both the sides.
