The game of cricket is considered one of the classy games in the world. The game flares gentle and friendly behaviour between the cricketers on and off the field. But sometimes the game is stained by murky activities by the cricketers.

Arrogance and lack of humorous attitude create conflict between the cricketers. As the cricketers are respected as the idols, as idols they must remember the decorum to be maintained in front of the people. But as human beings make mistakes, the cricketers are no different. There are some incidents where the cricketers made controversial remarks.

Here, in this article, we will discuss five of the arrogant statements by some cricketers:

Marlon Samuels

West Indies lads are considered friendly guys on and off the field. But exceptional is everywhere. Marlon Samuels has been different from his compatriots.

The former Windies all-rounder not only ranted against English all-rounder Ben Stokes but dragged his wife Clare into the conversation.

Stokes was recording an Indian Premier League podcast with Rajasthan Royals, and he said he won’t wish 14-day quarantine on anyone, not even on Samuels. Stokes said, “No, it’s that bad, that’s how tough it was”.

Samuels got unnecessarily enraged and wrote on his Instagram story, “no white boy could diss me in the sports and no get back diss look at this b*tch still thinking about me give me 14 days with you wife turn her into Jamaican in 14 seconds mate none of yall know me that simply means it’s my f***ing superior skin tone (sic).

Marlon Samuels faced the wrath of criticism after his comment.

Gautam Gambhir

Gambhir has often drawn attention to controversial statements. Once, he made people frown with his comment on Royal Challengers Bangalore captain Virat Kohli. Gambhir said this on Star Sports’ show “Game Plan”. The statement came just before the 2019 IPL.

Questioning Kohli’s captaincy, the former India opener said, “I don’t see him as a shrewd captain. I don’t see him as a tactful captain [tactician]. And he hasn’t won the IPL. So ultimately, a captain is only as good as his record.”

“There are people who have won the trophy three times. MS Dhoni and Rohit Sharma. So I think he has a long way to go. You cannot compare him to someone like Rohit or Dhoni at this stage because he has been part of RCB, and captaining RCB for the last seven to eight years, and he has been very lucky and should be thanking the franchise that they stuck with him because not many captains have got such a long rope where they haven’t won a tournament,” the former cricketer criticised Kohli’s captaincy.

Sabbir Rahman

Bangladesh and controversial statements go hand in hand. When Bangladesh were all set to host England in 2016, Sabbir had made a bold statement,t but that sounded more arrogant.

After beating India, South Africa, and Pakistan in their backyard, Bangladesh were riding through a brilliant phase. England too were having good form. Sabbir felt that his men could chase and post 500 even.

“A team is always strong at their home ground. So are we. England is doing well in England. When they come here, they will probably have to battle our spinners, and they will need to survive that,”

“I am not thinking about 400, 500 runs. Even if they do score that much, we have the batsmen who have the ability to chase that down,” said Sabbir.

He got trolled for his remark after England won the series 2-1.

Mushfiqur Rahim

One of the most hated incidents in the history of cricket, Indian fans hate Bangladesh’s wicket-keeper Mushfiqur Rahim for his post after India got knocked out of the T20 World Cup, 2016. West Indies emerged victoriously and secured a place in the finals. This cricketer reacted to India’s elimination after losing the semi-finals against WI at Wankhede Stadium.

Happiness is this…!!! Hahaha…!!! India lost in the semifinal” Rahim tweeted alongside a picture of MS Dhoni. He lost his professionalism as a cricketer. Rahim later deleted the tweet and apologized.

His apology tweet read: “Sorry to all of you guys…as I am a big West Indies supporter but anyway sorry again for some harsh words…!!!!”

Virender Sehwag

One of the explosive batters on the field, Virender Sehwag, is also known for his wit. However, once he was criticized for an unprofessional comment on Bangladesh. The former India opener had stated once that Bangladesh can stun once or twice in ODIs but not in Test cricket calling them an ordinary side.

“Bangladesh are an ordinary side. They can’t beat India because they can’t take 20 wickets,” he said. Speaking to a Bangladesh reporter, Sehwag added: “No. They can’t beat us in Test matches,” Sehwag said. “They can surprise you in ODIs but not in Tests.”

Sehwag’s comment didn’t go well and received widespread criticisms from all sections of society.
