Former India captain Anil Kumble wants the BCCI to allow players to play in leagues around the world so that they would get exposure prior to the 2024 T20 World Cup in the West Indies and the USA.

Since the commencement of the IPL several countries have introduced their own leagues such as Australia’s Big Bash League, Pakistan Super League and Caribbean Premier League to name a few.

Kumble says that young players should be given opportunities to play in leagues around the world. It is seen how beneficial IPL has been for all foreign players.

“In terms of giving an opportunity to a young player to go overseas and have a crack, then why not? I think it’s important that you need to have everything that you need to do that come 2024, you are well-prepared to take on a World Cup event,” Anil Kumble said.

Players like Jos Buttler and Alex Hales have utilised their experience of playing in the BBL which came in hand in the game versus India at Adelaide.

“I certainly believe there is no fixed batting order” – Anil Kumble

Anil Kumble also talked about the need of having a flexible batting order. India went in with a more specific batting that has hurt them badly throughout the competition.

“The other thing that I also feel that needs to come into this team is the flexible approach to batting or the batting order. Because in T20s, I certainly believe there is no fixed batting order. You have to be flexible in the way you are going to go about using your resources,” Kumble added.

In the leg spinners’ opinion, the board has to go back to the drawing board and target youngsters who fit the appropriate brand of cricket and provide them with the necessary support by allowing them to play in global leagues.

“And likewise, if you identify the brand of cricket that we are looking at and then identify these key young players who you believe need those exposures, then why not? I think that’s important,” Anil Kumble concluded.
