The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has decided to sack the full coaching staff with immediate effect including head coach Mickey Arthur. The outgoing coach said that was very disappointed and hurt after being removed as the head coach of Pakistan after their indifferent performance in the 2019 World Cup. Pakistan narrowly failed to qualify for the 2019 World Cup semi-final. Arthur said that he has done his best during his tenure as the coach.
“I am extremely disappointed and hurt,” the South African said shortly after the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) announced his departure. “I did my wholehearted effort to lift Pakistan cricket,” he added.
Arthur’s contract with Pakistan expired following the 2019 World Cup which was hosted and won by England. As per reports, it is learnt that Arthur asked for a two-year extension but PCB chief decided against renewing the contract of Arthur, Grant Flower and Azhar Mahmood
“PCB will be immediately undertaking a robust recruitment process after it decided not to renew the contracts of head coach Arthur, bowling coach Azhar Mahmood, batting coach Grant Flower and trainer Grant Luden,” the board said in a statement.
The PCB committee which has the likes of Wasim Akram and Misbah-ul-Haq decided unanimously they want new coaching staff. “The committee comprised of individuals who possess tremendous acumen, experience and knowledge,” Mani said. Meanwhile, reports have emerged that Mickey Arthur might be in line to coach the English team following the Ashes.
“The unanimous recommendation of the committee was that it was time for new leadership and a fresh approach.”Micky Arthur stated that Pakistan’s Champions Trophy victory shaped a new change in their cricket. “We also became world number one in Twenty20 cricket in this period, which was an achievement,” he said.
Despite their Champions Trophy victory in 2017, Pakistan’s overall performance in the last two years hasn’t been great. Under Arthur Pakistan has won just 10 out of the 28 Test matches and also losing 17 matches.
