During the Test match against Pakistan at the National Stadium in Karachi, former New Zealand captain Kane Williamson issued the “challenge” to bat in the Asian subcontinent. Williamson’s double-hundred in his first game after resigning as captain seems to indicate that a burden has been taken off his shoulders.
The former captain was in commanding form as he pounded an unbeaten 200 from 395 balls, including 21 boundaries and one maximum. After reaching the milestone on Day 4, the 32-year-old admitted that batting in Asia was difficult.
“It is always a challenge to bat in Asia. I would not put them all in the same group, but as a team we are always trying to adjust to the conditions to put a good performance on the board. These were a good few days, but Test cricket going into day five, there is a lot left in the match, so we are very much focused on that,” Williamson said in the press conference after stumps on Day 4.

Williamson’s 200-run innings, which was his seventh double ton in Tests, saw him surpass Brendon McCullum’s previous record for the most double hundreds. With four double centuries, Kiwi icon McCullum is second on the record, followed by Ross Taylor (3) and Stephen Fleming (3), who are third and fourth on the list, respectively.
Babar Azam, the captain of Pakistan, scored 161 runs off 280 balls throughout the game, assisting his team in amassing 438 runs. Tom Latham’s century (113 runs) and Williamson’s 200* in response helped the team reach 612 for nine before ending their first batting innings.
Team Pakistan is currently looking to post a competitive total and will strive for a favourable outcome. Babar Azam and company will be aiming for victory because they haven’t had much luck lately due to the 3-0 thrashing they suffered against England.
