Pacer Shivam Mavi made a memorable debut for Team India on Tuesday, January 3 against Sri Lanka in the first T20I at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. He pulled off a great bowling performance powering India to victory in a thrilling encounter. Team India defended 162, winning the match by two runs.
Shivam Mavi took four wickets for just twenty-two runs, in his four overs. Earlier in the match, he received his debut cap from skipper Hardik Pandya. The pacer termed his debut as a ‘dream come true moment’. In a video shared by the Board of Control for Cricket in India, the debutant spoke to the Indian bowling coach Paras Mhambrey. Mavi said,
“My main agenda is to attack first in the powerplay as I always go for lbw bowled… whether the boundaries happen or not, my mindset is to get wickets. After the Under-19 (World Cup in 2018) when I played in the IPL, I had injuries but I decided to level up my fitness because I was getting injured in between my performances. I decided to work hard on my fitness and it paid me back in this match.”

I believed in myself and have kept working hard: Shivam Mavi
Further, Indian pacer Shivam Mavi expressed how he battled through the difficult times in his career. During his injury period after the 2018 U19 World Cup, he kept believing in himself and worked hard to make a comeback on the field. Speaking about the tough times, Shivam Mavi said,
“It is difficult to get a chance in the first match. Also, it is my first tour. You must have seen that it’s not easy to get a chance and I had been waiting for this moment for the last six years when I was injured after the U-19 (World Cup). But I believed in myself and have kept working hard with the faith that I have to play and perform for India.”
