Kings XI Punjab is likely to get a new skipper in the form of KL Rahul for the next edition of the Indian Premier League. If believed to be true, he will now replace Ravichandran Ashwin who led the side for the past two seasons.
According to the latest report from Mumbai Mirror, the management isn”t content with the captaincy of Ashwin. The side wasn”t able to qualify for the playoffs under his leadership and this forced the management to reach the decision. A final call will be made on this when the franchise meets by this weekend.
Furthermore, the franchise is also trying to trade Ashwin and is in talks with a couple of franchises. However, there hasn”t been any news on the swaps being preferred by the management.
A new role for KL Rahul
KL Rahul was purchased for a whopping 11.5 crores during IPL 2018. He proved his class as a hard-hitting opener alongside Chris Gayle in the past two seasons.
In the past two seasons, he scored close to 1,252 runs for the franchise as an opener. Official confirmation of the same is awaited yet from the franchise.
If appointed, can KL Rahul lead them to a maiden title? Only time will tell.
