The third match of the ongoing SA20 2023 between Sunrisers Eastern Cape and Pretoria Capitals at St George’s Park produced a spectacular moment when Sunrisers’ Ottniel Baartman sent Theunis de Bruyn’s middle stump flying after the rain delay in the first innings.
Aiden Markram, who won the toss in his first game as the Sunrisers Eastern Cape’s captain, chose to put the Pretoria Capitals in to bat first. Will Jacks and Rilee Rossouw were both out in the first two overs as a result of his decision. However, the Pretoria Capitals clawed their way back into the game before the rain came down.
Soon after the rain break, the Sunrisers dealt the Pretoria Capitals another crushing blow when Ottniel Baartman sent back Theunis de Bruyn with a sensational delivery. Baartman’s delivery jagged back sharply, evading de Bruyn’s expansive drive and sending his middle stump for a walk, a sight that would delight any fast bowler.

The tall Protean batter didn’t bother looking back because he had heard the death rattle and was on his way back to the pavilion, leaving his side in trouble shortly after the lengthy rain delay. Before Pretoria’s talented English opener Phil Salt took matters into his own hands, Markram’s side was all over their opponents.
Salt was on his own at the crease when the mercurial Kiwi all-rounder Jimmy Neesham came out all guns blazing to support the Englishman. The pair took the attack to the opposition bowlers, stitching a counter-attacking 77-run sixth-wicket stand to propel their team to an above-par total on a tricky surface. With the likes of Anrich Nortje in the bowling unit, Wayne Parnell played a dazzling cameo to help his team to a more than competitive score Ottniel Baartman.
